Institute
The Central Veterinary Institute contributes to the protection of animal and public health in the Netherlands by undertaking research on and recommending about animal diseases. It is the national reference institute for the Dutch government and an international operating research institute for business life.
Expertise
CVI has specific expertise in the field of control of notifiable animal diseases related to Dutch and European legislation. CVIs research field spans all diseases of farm animals (including fish, poultry and bees) that are notifiable to the OIE. CVI maintains its expertise by doing research aimed at developing and improving diagnostic tools, developing new and improved vaccines, and elucidating the pathogenesis and epidemiology of diseases. As the national reference institute CVI is responsible for the diagnostics for surveillance, export certification, outbreaks, and supervises diagnostic standards for other Dutch veterinary laboratories. Highly infectious pathogens can be handled in the institutes High Containment Facility which includes laboratories, but also animal facilities for a broad spectrum of animal experiments with all notifiable diseases. CVI is certified for ISO-17025 for specific diagnostic tests and ISO-9001 for other activities.
