Partner 4: Central Agricultural Office, Directorate of Veterinary Medicinal Products (CAO-DVMP)

Institute

The Central Agricultural Office, Directorate of Veterinary Medicinal Products is responsible for authorisation and control of veterinary medicinal products in Hungary. It works as the national, competent authority on this field. The Directorate was founded by the 274/2006. (XII. 23.) Decree of the Government, as the complete legal successor of the former Institute for Veterinary Medicinal Products. The Directorate represents the Hungarian authority in international bodies (eg: Committees of European Medicines Agency (EMEA): eg.: Committee of Veterinary Medicinal Products (CVMP), Immunological Working Party; Groups of European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines (EDQM): eg.: Group 15V for Veterinary Biologicals).

Expertise

Control activity of the department consists of test of pre-registration samples, random tests of authorised immunological products and Official Control Authority Batch Release (OCABR). Altogether it means about 180-200 tested samples annualy. The department regularly participates in Biological Standardisation Programmes (BSP) and Centrally Authorised Products Testing (CAP) organised by EDQM. The laboratory of the department has a high qualified personnel and it is equipped with the necessary technical instruments (eg: -80 ºC freezers, centrifuges, ultracentrifuge, biosafety cabinets, thermal cyclers, real-time PCR instrument, FACS). The quality management system and the testing activity of the laboratory was inspected by the EDQM OMCL auditors, and was qualified as meeting the requirements of the ISO/IEC 17025 standard and the relevant OMCL guidelines. Number of certificate issued: EDQM/MJA-003. The animal facility in Gödölló, (about 30 km from Budapest) belongs to the Immunological Department. There are 4 conventional stables and a Biosafety Level-2 animal house, which was opened in 2006. The department has a strong research activity, which covers the development and testing of new generation vaccines against Feline Infectious Peritonitis, Bovine Viral Diarrhoea, Classical Swine Fever, and rabbit pasteurellosis. The department has been participated in the scientific project "Epidemiology and control of classical swine fever (CSF) in wild boar and potential use of a newly developed live marker vaccine (CSF vaccine and wild boar)" since 2004.
