Partner 2: National Veterinary Institute, Technical University of Denmark (DTU-Vet)
DTU Vet encompasses infectious animal diseases in farm livestock and companion animals. DTU Vet covers all disciplines relating to infectious diseases: pathology, bacteriology, virology, parasitology, immunology, vaccinology and serology, as well as epidemiology and risk assessment. As well as fulfilling an educational and communication role, DTU Vet is involved in research and innovation, diagnostics, monitoring, advisory services and risk assessment, and the production of vaccines and sera for infectious animal diseases. DTU Vet carries out basic and applied research aiming to control and prevent infectious animal diseases, including exotic virus diseases like classical swine fever (CSF) and foot- and mouth disease (FMD). DTU Vet is responsible for the laboratory component of the Danish veterinary contingency plan on the management of outbreaks of serious infectious animal diseases (including fish) in Denmark. DTU Vet is the national reference laboratory for a long list of infectious animal diseases, e.g. FMD, CSF and bluetongue, the EU reference laboratory for fish diseases and the OIE reference laboratory for VHS. DTU Vet have approximately 310 staff, working in three departments: Virology (Lindholm), Poultry, Fish and Fur Animals (Aarhus), and Veterinary Diagnostics and Research (Copenhagen).
Expertise
Participated in the EU large scale marker experiment (primary author on the publication on the weaner pig experiment). Experience in CSFV experimental infection and with laboratory methods for detection of virus antibodies, nucleic acid as well as traditional methods. Experience with CSFV chimerical vaccines. The group has National funding for other projects on immunopathogenesis and chimeric vaccines towards CSFV. Collaboration in NoE Epizone and CA-FMD-CSF
Role and contribution in the project
DTU-Vet will function as deputy-coordinator of this project. Research activities will focus primarily on work package 3 in addition to WP 11, 12 and 14
