Partner 12
Partner 12: Statens Veterinärmedicinska Anstalt Institute (SVA)
Statens Veterinärmedicinska Anstalt (SVA) is the main centre in Sweden with the overall responsibility for diagnostic and prophylactic work, as well as research and development in infectious diseases of domestic and wild animals. The aim of the activities is to promote animal health and welfare and to minimise hazards associated with animals important to public health and the environment. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture, SVA plays a central role in the country both in diagnostic services and also as main partner of eradication programs of infectious diseases.
Expertise
The Joint Virology R&D Div. of SVA and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) comprises 1 professor, 6 post-doc researchers, 3 researchers, 5 PhD students, working in molecular diagnostics, development of new assays and research. Main lines of activity are: 1) Development of molecular assays for detection of viral pathogens. 2) Applied and fundamental research on pathogenesis of viral infections. The group has expertise relevant for this task in molecular diagnostics, sequencing and molecular phylogeny, experience in international research through participation in EU projects: Projects FAIR-CT95-707, FAIR-CT95-0316, FAIR-CT98-4123 and QLK2CT-2000-00486 focused on molecular virology, epizootiology and molecular diagnosis. The group participates now in EU projects: CSF VACCINE&WILD BOAR, LAB-ON-SITE, PATHOGEN COMBAT, MED-VET-NET, EPIZONE & FLUTEST. SVA is the OIE (i.e. World Organisation for Animal Health) Collaborating Centre for Biotechnology-based Diagnosis of Infectious Diseases in Veterinary Medicine with activities focused on development, standardisation, validation and dissemination of new molecular diagnostic assays, international standardisation, validation and training.
