Partner 11: Bioengineering Research Centre for Animal Disease Prevention and Control Key Laboratory for Bio-Resource and Eco-Environment of Ministry of Education -KBBREE (SCU)

Institute

Sichuan university (SCU) is one of the oldest and leading key universities in China, which enjoying privileged construction and equipments as one of most important research base in west China in this century. At present, SCU has the widest coverage of disciplines and the largest scale of operation in West China. SCU has a competent teaching force with the total staff of 11,357, among whom 969 are professors, 2192 associate professors, 10 academicians of Chinese Academy of Science and Chinese Academy of Engineering. SCU has great potentiality in scientific researches, especially in human and animal medicine and life science fields. Presently the student population of SCU is more than 70 thousands, which includes over 4000 Ph D candidates and 16000 Master degree postgraduates. There are 4 national key labs in function, 6 national engineering centres, 5 ministerial key labs, 35 provincial key labs, 10 ministerial and provincial centres and 4 clinical research bases at the national level. SCU has undertaken and completed a considerable number of national, ministerial and regional major research projects, and has made many achievements, which are rated first class in China and bear significant international influence. In 2006, 6395 scientific papers were published at home and abroad, ranking seventh, among which over 1066 were included by SCI; the university succeeded in applying 150 patents, 132 out of which were invention-oriented, ranking eighth in China.

Expertise

KLBREE has been engaged in the researches to develop safe and effective vaccines and immunopotentiators for prevention and control of animal infectious diseases for 20 years, and managed over 15 projects funded by Chinese and Australia government in the filed epidemic investigation, diagnosis and vaccination control of animal infectious diseases, such as Swine fever disease, Foot and mouth disease, Marek's disease, Newcastle disease and avian infectious bronchitis etc. Strong and extensive experience in animal experimental infection and vaccination, skilful for detection of animal humoral, cellular immunity, and virus with ELISA, RT-PCR, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry and MTT assay for the bioactivities of cytokines as well as immunoelectronic microscope technique. Published over 100 scientific papers domestically and abroad, Won 10 different awards from the government and companies. Lab well equipped with the modern biological research instruments for explorations in animal immunology, veterinary science and molecular biology. All the mentioned professional activities and the extensive experiences can facilitate the validation of DIVA vaccines in field trial as the proposed project
