Project Expected benefits
CSFV_goDIVA
The expected outputs of the present FP7-project:
-
1. Scientific:
- a. Better understanding of CSF epidemiology, including pathogenesis, transmission and reservoir
- b. Evaluation of the third generation of live CSF marker vaccines
- c. Development and validation of accompanying discriminatory tests detecting antibody response as well as the differentiating of viral antigens
- d. Scenario-analysis and cost-effort evaluation of control protocols in domestic pigs
- e. Design of specific sampling protocols
- f. Better understanding of the mucosal immune response after oral vaccine delivery
- g. Insight in the potential use of antivirals as a possible control strategy
- h. Development and evaluation of new or adapted techniques usable under low-tech and on-site environments
-
2. Technical and policy support:
- a. A safe and efficient live marker vaccine and accompanying test for use in domestic pigs, wild boar and back yard pigs
- b. Tools for easier selection of suspected animals
- c. First generation of antivirals and a support strategy towards registration
- d. Epidemiological tools to estimate the risks, the benefits and the costs of possible interventions
- e. Sampling protocols applicable for specific emergency situation
- f. Graduation of cost efficiency, feasibility and success potential of available control strategies (existing and alternative) for the emergency situation in domestic pigs
- g. Improved understanding of CSF perpetuation and of control options in back yard pig
- h. Improved understanding of CSF transmission and persistence in wild boar
- i. Improved management options of CSF in wild boar by the development of a new marker vaccine, easy oral application pathways and adequate baiting strategies
